Spice in Heights brings an upscale Mediterranean experience, pairing globally inspired flavors, local ingredients, an evolving menu, and a setting designed for everything from intimate dinners to lively gatherings. Rooted in one of Houston’s most distinctive neighborhoods, the restaurant aims to offer an experience that feels at home in the city’s diverse and dynamic culinary landscape.

Led by Chef Kausik Roy, Spice in Heights explores the breadth of Mediterranean cuisine through a contemporary, globally influenced lens. Rather than limiting the menu to a single region, Chef Roy draws inspiration from across the Mediterranean and beyond, combining familiar ingredients and techniques in fresh, unexpected ways. That approach feels at home in Houston, where cultures, cuisines, and culinary traditions continually intersect.

Guests can expect intentional, concise offerings such as tuna tartare, rack of lamb, and steak paired with French mushroom sauce, alongside elevated vegetarian and vegan selections designed to be destinations in their own right. At the bar, the same spirit of creativity carries into cocktails such as the Spice 75, a saffron-infused interpretation of the classic French 75.

As Spice in Heights grows, Chef Roy will update the menu, exploring different regions, seasonal ingredients, and global culinary influences to give returning guests reasons to visit again.

That sense of exploration reflects a career built around pushing culinary boundaries. A graduate of the Johnson & Wales University culinary program, Chef Roy spent 16 years in New York, where he opened and operated more than six restaurants. He has appeared on The Martha Stewart Show and Chopped. After moving to Texas in 2017, he expanded into Mediterranean dining in Dallas before returning to an upscale restaurant format with Spice in Heights.

The approximately 5,500-square-foot restaurant is designed to match its menu’s versatility. A spacious patio provides room for outdoor dining, while the interior accommodates private celebrations, special events, and group dining. Future plans may include prix fixe dinners and tasting-style experiences.

For Chef Roy, Houston’s Heights neighborhood was an intentional choice.

“I fell in love with this neighborhood,” he said.

His goal is for Spice in Heights to feel woven into the community. By building its identity around the Heights while welcoming diners from across Houston, the restaurant plans to build relationships with neighborhood businesses and support local organizations and causes as it establishes its place in the Heights.

Spice in Heights is currently planning a ribbon-cutting celebration for September 26 featuring welcome drinks, passed appetizers, and members of the local business and Heights communities.
