Tom Thumb, Albertsons and Randalls today announced Holiday Bucks, a four-week campaign to raise $1 million for local nonprofits fighting hunger. From Nov. 3 through Nov. 30, customers at stores across North Texas, Austin, Houston, Louisiana and Oklahoma can donate at checkout, with every dollar staying in the community where it was given.
Food insecurity continues to affect families across local communities. Texas remains the most food-insecure state in the nation, including 1 in 4 children in Dallas-Fort Worth deemed food-insecure, while more than 827,000 people in Louisiana, including nearly 250,000 children, face hunger.*
“Every donation makes a difference in helping us provide food to individuals throughout our 11-parish service area,” said Liz Pfifer, President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. “We appreciate the generosity of Tom Thumb, Albertsons, Randalls and their customers. Support from campaigns like Holiday Bucks helps strengthen our ability to provide for our neighbors throughout the holiday season and beyond.”
Local food banks and hunger-relief organizations work year-round to help their neighbors access nutritious food. During the holiday season, Holiday Bucks gives customers an easy way to support that work and make a difference close to home.
“The holidays are a time when communities come together, and Holiday Bucks makes it easy for our customers and associates to help neighbors facing hunger,” said Eureka McCrae, Vice President of Operations, Albertsons Companies, Southern Market. “Their generosity supports local organizations working every day to help ensure families have access to nourishing food, with every dollar raised staying right here in the communities we serve.”
Holiday Bucks is part of the Albertsons Companies Foundation’s Nourishing Neighbors initiative. Giving takes seconds: at checkout, customers can select a $3, $5, $7 or $10 donation on the pin pad, or choose “Other” to give any amount. Customers who aren’t shopping in stores can donate by scanning a QR code.
Last year, customers and associates across the region contributed nearly $995,000 through Holiday Bucks. This year, stores and associates are aiming to build on that generosity and reach the $1 million mark, with every dollar going to local nonprofits focused on food insecurity.
Holiday Bucks runs through Nov. 30 at participating Tom Thumb, Albertsons and Randalls stores.
“We are grateful to Tom Thumb, Albertsons, Randalls and the thousands of shoppers who participate in Holiday Bucks to help our neighbors facing hunger,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “Every day, we hear from neighbors who are working hard but still struggling to put food on the table. Thanks to the generosity of our community and the continued support of Tom Thumb, Albertsons and Randalls, we can provide both nourishment and hope as families gather this holiday season.”
